Our Story
This shop has been part of downtown Whitefish since 2016, first as Meriwether and now as The Ruddy Duck. In 2025, owner Barbara Pfannkuch gave the store a new name and a fresh creative direction built around a simple idea: gifts should be fun to give, fun to get, and fun to shop for.
Barbara and her team have been building on that idea ever since, one clever card, irresistible mug, and laugh-out-loud discovery at a time. Locals wander in for one birthday card and leave with a bag. Tourists come in to escape the weather and leave with gifts for half their contact list. Both outcomes are fully supported.
What We Sell
Funny greeting cards, sarcastic coffee mugs, socks, stickers, magnets, candles, coasters, books, games, puzzles, jewelry, home decor, and a growing line of original Ruddy Duck designs you will not find anywhere else. We also carry Montana, Whitefish, and Glacier National Park souvenirs that are actually worth the suitcase space.
How We Pick Things
Every product in the shop earned its spot. We look for humor that lands, design worth keeping, and that "where did you find this" quality that makes a gift memorable instead of obligatory. Our range runs from sweet and sentimental to slightly inappropriate, sometimes on the same shelf. If it feels generic, it does not make the cut.
About the Name
The ruddy duck is a real duck: small, stubbornly cute, and slightly ridiculous. That felt about right. And to clear up any confusion, The Ruddy Duck in Whitefish, Montana is an independent shop, not affiliated with businesses of the same name in other states.
